The free 7 day preview gives you access to post a profile about your family for caregivers to view. 3. How do I know if I have been contacted by a fraudulent/scam family?

Care4hire.com does its best to screen out unethical families. There have been recent internet scams brought to our attention. Below are some different scenarios and suggestions: Do not accept an upfront payment from a family without starting a job or really ever interviewing with them. Do not give out your personal bank account information. (many times the fraudulent families will want to send you money upfront to purchase items for them before they arrive in your location) If a family cannot provide you an id# to their profile they have listed on Care4hire.com, disregard contact with them. Recently; we have seen where fraudulent families are contacting nannies via text message. (you do have the option of making your phone # invisible at Care4hire.com). Remember; families cannot see your personal email address at Care4hire.com - they have to email through the message box. So; unless you give them your email address, they do not receive it from Care4hire.com. Be cautious. If it sounds too good to be true; it maybe is. If a family wants to hire you without even checking references, interviewing you, etc...it probably is not real. You are taking care of the most important part of their life and they want to be safe, just as you do. Check references, do background checks, meet at a public location for the first interview, etc. If you have any concerns, please contact Care4hire.com.

4. Are caregivers allowed to view/contact families?

Yes; once registered, you will have access to view and contact families of interest. Some families do choose to make their profile invisible to caregivers and only contact caregivers of interest. If you run across this, do not be alarmed.

11. How do I screen a family?

Care4hire.com is an online database and does no pre-screening on the caregivers or families. Several steps should be taken in screening a family. You will want to ask a lot of questions to make sure you find the right match. You will also want to perform reference checks on the family, contacting past care providers. If the family has no past care providers, you may want to speak with a family friend who knows the family well. Background checks can be obtained using the online investigation service. Once you are a register member, you will have access to our sample interview questions, a sample contract and sample reference check forms. Your instincts are the best tool for choosing a family. A caregiver position can be a great experience, but be aware of illegitimate families. There have been recent scams where a family will request your bank account information and routing number. Do not give this information out to families. In rare cases, they will offer to send you a certified cashier’s check for travel expenses (which turns out to be a forgery). It will usually arrive in a much larger sum than what was agreed upon and they will ask you to transfer or wire the money to a third party. The job will usually sound too good to be true. If you feel you have been contacted by a scamming family, please contact Care4hire.com immediately. You can also report this type of situation to http://www.ic3.gov/ or http://www.treas.gov/usss/financial_crimes.shtml.
